Dr. Jackie Parr, BScH, DVM, MSc, Dip ACVN

Dr. Jackie Parr (aka The Kibble Queen) is a 2009 graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) and is a board certified veterinary clinical nutritionist. Dr. Parr completed a rotating small animal internship and a residency in clinical nutrition at Angell Animal Medical Centre in Boston, Massachusetts. During her internship, Dr. Parr was awarded the Dr. Sharon Drellich Memorial Award for professionalism, collegiality, and compassion. During her four years in Boston (2009-2013), she also completed a Masters in biochemical and molecular nutrition at Tufts University.

Dr. Parr returned to the OVC in 2013 to complete her post-doctoral fellowship and spent the majority of her time seeing appointments and consulting on cases for the OVC Health Sciences Centre in Guelph, Ontario. She completed her post-doctoral work and became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Nutrition in July 2015. She was awarded the OVC Young Alumnus Award in June 2016 and she is currently Adjunct Faculty at OVC. Through her Adjunct Faculty role she continues to teach and works with numerous graduate students on research that advances our knowledge of pet nutrition.

Dr. Parr volunteers her time as the current secretary for the American Academy of Veterinary Nutrition (AAVN). She has also been the primary organizer a several writing competitions for students and residents and has been in charge of website and logo redevelopment for the organization. Furthermore, she is passionate about working with the Canadian AAVN Student Chapters at both the OVC and the Atlantic Veterinary College in Charlottetown, PEI.

Dr. Parr’s passion is teaching and she has given numerous continuing education lectures at conferences and veterinary schools across Canada. She is a proud Canadian and passionate Toronto Maple Leafs fan. She shares her home in Hamilton, Ontario with two wonderful dogs. She adopted Hennessy, a retriever mix, as a puppy during veterinary school. She later adopted Chickpea, her Boston Terrier, in 2013 after falling in love with the breed during her time in Boston.
